Hidden Gems: FACT
This week we continue with our Hidden Gems blog series to give you an insight into some of Liverpool’s hidden gems. Whether you’re planning a trip to the city, or you’ll be staying with us soon, we’ll give you the low-down on all the best bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and live music venues that you might not have heard about in the travel guides!
With brilliant bars, restaurants and music venues popping up all around the city, it can be difficult to know which to visit first!
This week’s focus is on FACT (Foundation for Art & Creative Technology), an independent venue in the city’s Ropewalks area. A centre for film, exhibitions and participant-led art projects, a visit to FACT is guaranteed to educate or inspire you before you leave!
On the ground floor of the building you’ll find free exhibitions from artists across the globe covering a range of themes – such as space, film, technology and the mass media. Past exhibitions have included the interactive exhibition Follow, which examined social media and its place in modern society.
As part of the launch of the Follow documentary, FACT truly put itself on the map with a performance by actor turned performance artist Shia LeBeouf – who took phone calls at FACT’s gallery over 4 days – asking members of the public to ring in and ‘touch his soul’.
During the performance, 3,129 people visited the Gallery, while 271,672 watched it via Livestream. 1,089 people managed to get through on the phone.
If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a Picturehouse cinema on the third floor, with three cinema screens showing everything from the latest blockbusters to independent short films and documentaries. If you’re looking to go and see a film without the hustle and bustle of the larger cinemas, this is for you.
You won’t be short on Food & Drink options either. Downstairs, The Garden by LEAF serves delicious sandwiches, soups, salads and light bites as well as fresh coffee, soft drinks and loose leaf tea. On the second floor you’ll find The Bar, perfect for grabbing the pre or post film screening drink. You can even ask for a plastic cup and take your drink into the cinema screen with you!
So there you have it – FACT – a must-see on your visit to Liverpool. Whether you’re a lover of art, film or just after a great time you’ll definitely find something here .
To keep track of what they’ve got going on, have a look at their online listings or check them out on Twitter.
