Liverpool Pride

On Saturday 30th – Sunday 31st July, Liverpool Pride will return to the city, at its new home in St George’s Quarter. For the first time, the festival will be completely free, with this year aiming to be the most inclusive yet.

This year the festival, which was set up in 2010 in memory of murdered gay teenager Michael Causer, aims to embrace everyone in the city with its ‘Liverpool Icons’ theme. The theme pays tribute to Cilla Black following her death last year.

As always, the weekend will begin with the Pride March through the city centre, followed by Saturday’s festival line-up, headlined by the “You’ll Never Stop Me Loving You” singer Sonia, as well as Pride favourite Lucy Spraggan and X Factor’s Mason Noise.

As well as live music, the Saturday will host a champagne bar, street food stalls, comedy, burlesque and more.

Sunday takes a more family-oriented approach with the all-new We Are Family programme – an inclusive programme for all ages with a range of entertainment throughout the day. The ‘Garden Stage’ will host performances in tribute to Cilla Black, as well as the music of George Michael. The day will also feature ‘Sing With Pride’, which will see Sense of Sound’s Jennifer John working with choirs from across the city to perform songs from local artists such as The Beatles, Dead or Alive and Echo and the Bunnymen.

The day will be ended with a finale performance of Cilla’s “You’re My World” to mark the first anniversary of her death on 1st August.
