The Giants Return To Liverpool and Wirral
This Autumn The Giants return to Liverpool and Wirral for one final act, bringing the enchanting street theatre trilogy to a close.
Even if you weren’t around when The Giants took to the streets of the Liverpool in 2012 and 2014 you’ve probably heard tales of the jaw-dropping spectacle and incredible atmosphere that captured the hearts and imaginations of residents and visitors to the city alike.
Well, this October will mark your last chance to walk in the footsteps of The Giants in Liverpool. Globally renowned street theatre company Royal de Luxe will bring the third and final part of their story to the streets of the city and Wirral, with a free and unmissable show taking place from Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th October 2018.
Liverpool’s Dream
As yet, details have been shrouded in secrecy with just the theme Liverpool’s Dream and a few hints about the spectacle being released to date. Details of which Giants will be embarking on the adventure and the exact performance route will be revealed in September, until then we’ll all just have to keep guessing.
We also know that New Brighton Lighthouse will be a focal point of the event, after a stunning piece of artwork by Liverpool artist, Alice Duke, was revealed at the location in June this year.
An enormous picnic blanket, created by thousands of children from Liverpool and Wirral, will also feature in show. The blanket will feature colourful appliqué, embroidery and printing depicting the dreams and wishes of the youngsters, with the makers being invited to a very special picnic in October to celebrate the creation.
The Giants Return to Liverpool: Where to Stay
Liverpool’s Dream will follow Sea Odyssey (2012) and Memories of August (2014). The first instalment followed the adventures of the Little Girl Giant, her playful dog, Xolo and the Diver in a story inspired by the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic. In the second adventure Little Girl Giant and Xolo returned with Grandmother Giant, whose stories shone a light on the impact that the preparations for the First World War had on Liverpool.
In 2012 the event attracted crowds of 800,000 and in 2014 that number climbed to one million – so the city was, understandably busy, with bars, restaurants, hotels and accommodation fully booked for the spectacle.
